Senior Copywriter | Voice Over Artist
When she was just a wee lass, Abigail (Abby) Bender told everyone who would listen that she would be a writer when she grew up.
Although she would argue that she hasn’t quite reached grown-up status yet, there’s no doubt that she has attained her childhood goal of being a writer with a capital “W.”
Her first big break was writing an “insider’s look” guidebook to Purdue University shortly after graduation. Since then, she’s done everything from travel writing, e-mail marketing, consumer loyalty retention programs, video scripts, greeting cards and just about any other type of marketing you can think of.
In 2006, Abby joined Hallmark as a writer in their internal Creative Marketing Studio, where she was one of the lead writers responsible for communication to the more than 14 million Gold Crown consumers. She then moved to the greeting card side, where she put on her editor hat for the Kids team (and then the Masculine team).
In 2008, Abby joined forces with Terry and lent her writing prowess to the agency that would eventually become Smith Bender. Her nimble fingers churned out engaging content for clients across the United States (and the world).
Abby specializes in energetic copy with just the slightest edge of quirk, although she’s versatile enough to write in any style needed.
Abby's fun cocktail party icebreaker:
She wrote copy for the anniversary tour of the Rock Bottom Remainders, a band comprised of authors Stephen King, Mitch Albom, Amy Tan, Scott Turow, and Dave Barry. (She also got to do the Pulp Fiction dance with Stephen King.)
Bonus fun fact: she’s a skilled voice-over artist, highly sought after for squeaky bunny rabbits, New York mothers, or Marilyn Monroe-esque singers.
"Between the two of us, we cover a pretty wide range of voices, from formal to conversational to cute and sassy and more."
